Subtitle editing options

There are different options to edit, segment and synchronize subtitles.

Editing options available in each block

Each block includes a set of options to change the time codes and the text of the subtitle. These are the main ones:

Description

1. Start > Press this button to set the start time of the subtitle. You can increase or decrease the time code using the + and – symbols.

2. Hide > Press this button to set the end time of the subtitle. You can increase or decrease the time code using the + and – symbols.

3. Subtitle number in the list.

4. Duration > If this indicator is red, the subtitle duration does not respect the standard values (minimum duration 1 second, maximum duration 7 seconds). Add or subtract milliseconds using the + and – symbols.

5. Characters / subtitle > number of characters per subtitle. If this indicator is red, edit the subtitle to reduce the number of characters.

6. Characters / second > number of characters per second. If this indicator is red, the value is over the standard of 20 characters / second. Edit the bloc to reduce the number of characters or increase the subtitle duration + and – symbols.

7. Characters / line > number of characters per line. If this value is red, reduce the number of characters per line to a maximum of 44.

8. Pause > between consecutive subtitles. If it is red, delay the appearance of the subtitle by clicking on the + symbol as many times as necessary.

9. Warning > this button displays all the errors within a subtitle. If it is red, place the cursor over the icon to see the error messages.

10. Mark / Unmark subtitle > this button allows you to select a subtitle, which will be highlighted in yellow.

11. Edit > this button opens the editing space. You can also double-click on the text of the subtitle.

12. Save > this button saves the changes.

13. Add > this button adds a blank subtitle.

14. Delete > this button deletes a block.

Segmentation options

When you perform an automatic transcription or translation, you should modify the text segmentation of the subtitles. The main options are:

Automatic segmentation of a section:

1. Select the blocks you wish to segment by clicking on the star available in each block. The selected items are displayed in yellow.

Note: Select consecutive blocks only.

2. Click on Segment selection to choose the segmentation criteria.

3. Select the segmentation criteria.

Note: if you do not have any specific criteria, leave the options selected by default.

4. Click on Segment

Manual segmentation of a block in two:

1. Place the cursor at the point where you wish to segment the text.

2. Press Ctrl + A.

3. The block will be divided in two subtitles.

Segmentation of lines within a subtitle:

1. Place the cursor at the point where you wish to segment the text.

2. Press Enter on your keyboard.

3. The selected line will be divided in two.

Time synchronization options (subtitle – video)

When you perform an automatic transcription, the subtitles are automatically synchronized with the video. However, if you make certain modifications, you may need to readjust the start and end time codes of certain blocks. To do this:

1. Pause the video at the exact moment you wish the subtitle to appear o disappear. Use Play / Pause on the video player.

Note: For greater accuracy, select the exact moment on the wave form. You can increase and decrease the size of the bar for greater precision.

2. Click on the pin next to the time code at the top of each subtitle block. Remember that the first pin corresponds to the start time and the second to the end time.

3. Use the symbols + y – to add or subtract milliseconds to the time code.
